Medicaid
Medicaid has been the cornerstone of our health care system for over 40 years. More than 190,000 Rhode Islanders depend on Medicaid funding for vital health care coverage and services. Our elected officials should be doing MORE to ensure that everyone has access to quality, affordable health care not LESS.
Congress has recently passed a budget bill that includes devastating cuts to Medicaid, federal child support enforcement, student loan assistance, and other vital services and imposes new work requirements on state welfare programs.
Since Medicaid funding is a program that operates on matching state and federal funds, this will have a devastating impact on the health of Rhode Islanders. Rhode Island for Health Care worked with over a dozen city and town councils across the state to pass resolutions urging the President, Governor, and US Congressional delegation to preserve and protect Medicaid funding.
Right now Governor Carcieri is drafting his state budget and we want him to know that Medicaid matters to Rhode Islanders. Take action by sending Governor Carcieri a message that he should not cut Medicaid funding in the upcoming state budget!
